Obtaining Work Permits for Foreign Students
Awara team have been involved in amending Russian legislation to improve the conditions of stay in Russia for foreign students.
Until 2014 to hire foreign students studying in Russia, employers had to obtain an authorization (permit) to hire foreign employees, as well as work permits for hired students. These requirements made it difficult for foreign students to complete internships in Russian companies, thus in practice making them impossible for many students, as few Russian companies were willing to go through the complicated and time-consuming procedure to obtain work permits for students for their short-term internships or work.
Awara set out to make it easier for foreign students to stay in Russia by proposing to simplify the procedure for obtaining work permits for foreign students and altogether cancel the need to obtain an authorization (permit) to hire foreign employees. This proposal was put forward to the relevant Russian authorities through members of the Finnish Russian Business Club and Finnish officials, including the president of Finland, Mr. Sauli Niinistö.
The amendments to Russian immigration laws which simplify the employment of foreign students in Russia entered into force on January 1, 2014. From this date foreign students may apply on their own for a work permit which should be issued by the Federal Migration Service within 10 working days.
Awara is also glad to provide foreign students and graduates with an opportunity to take an internship at the company — read more here.
