Business Breakfast: Investment and Business in Russia
Investment and Business in Russia in the Current Situation
Business Breakfasts in Helsinki, August 26 and 27, 8:30-11:00.
Experts on Russian legislation speak about two of the most important topics in Russia today: sanctions and corruption. Awara Group partners Artem Usov and Anton Kabakov will deliver lectures in English and be glad to answer participants’ questions after the presentation. Petri Rajahalme will speak on the Team Finland Explorer startup financing project and on how a company oriented to the Russian market can use it.
Artem Usov – How to react to sanctions and counter-sanctions? Minimizing company risks and preparing for the future.
Is your company already facing a negative outcome of the sanctions? Are you worried about the possibility of further sanctions and their consequences?
Artem Usov will talk about the impact of Russia’s sanctions on Finnish and international companies and give advice on how companies should act to protect their business and minimize negative consequences of the sanctions.
Mr. Usov will describe specific risks to a company and consult on agreements that can be executed to protect legal and commercial interests of the company. He will describe examples of practical solutions to both typical and extraordinary scenarios.
Artem Usov, a lawyer and Awara partner, joined Hellevig, Klein & Usov Law Firm (part of Awara Group) in 2002. He specializes in tax law, contract law, corporate governance and international business planning in Russia. Usov is also the author of numerous books and articles on law.
Anton Kabakov – Anti-corruption measures in the company
Russia keeps tightening its grip on corruption, introducing ever heavier restrictions on companies operating in the Russian market. In 2006, Russia ratified the UN Convention against Corruption, and in 2008 the country passed its own anti-corruption legislation. In 2012, the laws were tightened, enacting additional anti-corruption checks on companies operating in Russia starting January 1, 2013. Anton Kabakov will explain how the anti-corruption measures operate, what formal requirements are to be followed in practice, and how to manage personnel with regards to these requirements.
Anton Kabakov is an Awara Group partner, managing the Awara legal team in St. Petersburg. Mr. Kabakov has worked on a number of legal committees, as a representative of Finnish and international companies, for many years. He has provided consultation to our clients on various cases related to risk and contract management. He writes regularly for the Awara blog on future legislative changes in Russia and has presented reports at numerous conferences and round tables.
